Riding To The Top:

“AED donated in memory of former RTT Volunteer”

By: Susan Cole, Director of Development

Westbrook Strong recently donated an Automated Emergency Defibrillator (AED)
to Riding To The Top Therapeutic Riding Center. It was purchased from some of
the proceeds from The Annual Westbrook Strong 5K and Matt’s Fun Run and was
presented by Laurie and Gary Rairdon.
The race is held every year in memory of Matthew Rairdon, a 2009 Westbrook High School graduate, who tragically died in 2013. It is the vision of the family and Westbrook Strong to honor Matt’s memory by raising funds for the Matthew S. Rairdon Scholarship Fund. When preparing to go to college, Matt was extremely grateful for the scholarship he received to assist with tuition at St. Joseph’s College and the intent of this scholarship fund is to help other individuals interested in pursuing a degree in nursing at St. Joseph’s College in the future.
In addition to the Scholarships, this year Westbrook Strong was excited to be able to
purchases two AEDs for local non-profits—Riding To The Top and My Place Teen Center. The Rairdons shared that as a young man in middle school, Matthew volunteered his time at Riding To The Top, and was named RTT’s Youth Volunteer of the Year in 2004. Matt’s older sister also benefitted from services at Riding To The Top. Riding To The Top’s Executive Director Sarah Bronson noted that the AED donation is a fitting way to honor Matt’s nursing career and his dedication to saving lives.

“Westbrook Strong’s” generous donation of an AED is greatly appreciated and is something that we’ve been trying acquire for a couple of years now. While we hope we never need to use it, we will have it in the event of an emergency and it will make RTT an even safer place for our clients, parents, staff, volunteers and visitors. Thank you to Laurie and Gary, and “Westbrook Strong!” About Riding to the Top and Westbrook Strong.
